North Star Trading Company, our company, came to life in 1978. Our very first product was a four piece triangle hat which we were very proud of. We purchased our first industrial sewing machine and we were on our way. Neither partner had any sewing experience whatsoever, but by trial and error we started making footwear. Its taken many years to perfect our patterns, our original indoor slipper has now been joined by three different oudoor sole varieties. Because of our space limitations at the Market, we often try to discontinue a style, but our customers seem to need all the options, so four styles it is!

We're a small family owned business on Whidbey Island in Washington State and we've sold our wares at the Pike Place Market in Seattle since 1978. You can see our slippers there every day The craft line at the market works on seniority. There is a daily rollcall, and those vendors not there to choose a spot, do not sell that day. The products for sale must be hand crafted, and the owner must be there once a week, to meet the public.. Wool makes the best footwear. it has so many great properties. It insulates and absorbs moisture while keeping you warm and dry. It is water resistant and requires little care. When the outside becomes wet the inside will remain cosy. Just remember to let them dry at room temperature. To freshen them up, sprinkle cornstarch inside. This product can also be used to remove grease spots from sheepskin footwear. Just sprinkle on, allow to absorb and brush off.

We use only finest grade skins - They arrive in sixty skin bales. They are first checked for flaws and then we cut out the designs using our own patterns. The thinnest part of the sheep skin, around the belly is disgarded. Once the pieces have been cut, each seam is shaved. this makes for a clean seam. We have designed our footwear to have more room in the toe, a common problem with our competitors products. Three of our slipper syles can be worn outside, great for walking the dog or taking out the trash.140. Our Snugg house slipper has a double soft sole of bark sheep skin on the inside (extra thick) and a sturdy leather sole. Because of the natural resiliance of sheeps wool, air is able to circulate and your feet stay dry in sheep skin. as moisture is wicked away.
